Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
  • As part of our efforts to ensure an unbiased and high quality review of submitted papers, we request your kind cooperation in providing three suggestions for reviewers external to your institution and with whom you have not previously collaborated. By avoiding soliciting reviewers with whom you have not previously collaborated, we avoid any potential conflict of interest or undue influence in the evaluation of papers. We strongly believe that this promotes the integrity and quality of our publications. The final selection of reviewers is the responsibility of the editors of the journal Bio Ciencias. Proposed reviewers must meet the following criteria. 1. Specialists must not be active members of their institution. 2. Make sure that the proposed reviewers have not previously collaborated with you. 3. The reviewers you suggest should have experience in the field of your research, thus providing specialized knowledge. Author Guidelines

INSTRUCTIONS FOR AUTHORS

Before sending your material, the corresponding author must register in our platform covering all fields of the profile, in addition to send the article under the same characteristics.

The material sent to Revista Bio Ciencias must be subject to the following specifications of each type of article and sections:

Original Article

This type of article includes results from original research. The article must have a maximal length of 20 pages, including tables and/or figures; besides containing the next sections: 1) Title in both Spanish and English; 2) Author(s); 3) Work institution of the author(s), including country; 4) E-mail of the corresponding author; 5) Abstract in Spanish; 6) Keywords in Spanish; 7) Abstract; 8) Keywords; 9) Introduction; 10) Materials and methods; 11) Results and discussion; 12) Conclusions; and 13) References.

Review Article

These articles will be accepted for their evaluation only by invitation from the Editorial Committee of Revista Bio Ciencias; the topics treated in this type of article must be of extreme relevance in the area. The objective of the revision must be precise and specific. The number of charts, tables and/or figures are five as much, and the number of pages must not exceed 20, including references. This type of article must contain the next sections: 1) Title in both Spanish and English; 2) Author(s); 3) Work institution of the author(s), including country; 4) E-mail of the corresponding author; 5) Abstract in Spanish; 6) Keywords in Spanish; 7) Abstract; 8) Keywords; 9) Introduction; 10) Discussion; 11) Conclusions; and 12) References.

Case Reports

This type of article sets the report of any event that is relevant in a biological context. For example, the presence of species in geographic zones or methodologies that can work under a specific condition. The article must have a maximum extent of 10 pages including charts and/or figures; in addition to containing the following sections: 1) Title in both Spanish and English; 2) Author(s); 3) Work institution of the author(s), including country; 4) E-mail of the corresponding author; 5) Abstract in Spanish; 6) Keywords in Spanish; 7) Abstract; 8) Keywords; 9) Introduction; 10) Discussion; 11) Conclusions; and 12) References.

Technical report

This type of documents are aimed to precisely inform the results and procedures of a research. The documents must contain the following sections: 1) Title in English and Spanish; 2) Author(s); 3) Work institution of author(s), including country; 4) E-mail of the corresponding authors; 5) Abstract in Spanish; 6) Keywords in Spanish; 7) Abstract; 8) Keywords; 9) Introduction; 10) Aim of the project; 11) Aim of the report; 12) Area of study; 13) Used methods; 14) Results; 15) Acknowledgements; and 16) Annexes.

Editorials

This is an opinion section that consists in arguments regarding current affairs, comments on articles, or about our journal itself. The maximum length must be of one sheet, hence the title is required to be short and simple. The author’s filiation must be presented under his/her name.

Letters to the Editor

Their function is to stimulate a feedback process that allows evaluation, and if it is the case, to redefine editorial policies and the work of Revista Bio Ciencias. This section also works as forum for open discussion in topics related to the journal and other matters of interest. Letters must contain title, name of the author with its filiation, country and text.

Brief Communication

Papers with no longer extension than five sheets will be included in this section, including two tables or figures and an abstract no longer than 100 words. It is about papers that present preliminary or collateral results that admit posterior investigation. The presentation of this type of articles must fulfill the same content and scientific accuracy norms as the original articles.

News

In this section results and importance events for the scientific knowledge will be informed.

The information of figures, tables and/or charts must be presented in both languages English and Spanish, with white background, located within the original file and as numbered attached annexes, in TIF, PNG, PDF, JPEG or JPG file formats, with a resolution of 300 dpi, in all cases.

COMPONENTS AND SECTIONS OF THE MANUSCRIPT

All manuscripts must be sent digital, in Word format. The configuration of the page must be letter size (28x 21.5 cm); font Arial, 12 points, with spacing of 1.5.

Front page. Title, author(s), adscription(s), country and information of corresponding author.

Title. Clear and precise, with a maximum length of 25 words in Spanish and English. Short title of the manuscript (running title), which must not contain more than four words.

Author. The name of the author or authors will be placed under the title of the first page of the original manuscript, indicating his/her institutional affiliation, country and ORCID number.

Corresponding Author. Complete name, mailing and electronic address, telephone number and electronic link of the author’s website or institution.

Abstract. Papers must contain an abstract in both Spanish and English that ranges from 150 to 250 words as maximum. It must include information regarding the importance of the topic, objectives of the paper, methods used, main results and conclusions. The content of the abstract must not include acronyms or abbreviations.

Introduction. It is the presentation of the problem addressed in the paper where objectives of the study are derived. It includes the revision of the literature, which represents a brief analysis of those publications that are related with the studied topic, and will be presented with a logical sequence in order to address background of the problem and link the paper with previous research that give bibliographic support. This section must end by pointing out the objectives of the study.

Materials and methods. It must describe the materials used and explain in detail the investigation methods applied for the execution of the paper. This section must end by pointing out the statistical tests made to objectively analyze the results.

Results and discussion. They constitute the central core of the scientific article. Results and most relevant tendencies of the paper will be described here in a logical, objective, exact and easy to understand form, which will be expressed mainly in form of tables and figures; complementing with a rigorously analysis or interpretation of the author on the obtained results, as well as a contrast with the results of other authors.

Conclusions. Conclusions and main contributions of the work must be included. They must be emanated from the results, and some recommendations for future work or possible application of the results for the resolution of problems can be mention.

References. Cites are included along the text starting with the first last name of the author, followed by the year of publication of the article or document, with parenthesis format. In case the last names of the author(s) are joined by a hyphen, it is cited the same way, in either case. The list of references details information of all articles and documents cited along the text, in alphabetical order and with the respective link or DOI.

The bibliographic references must be presented according to the following examples based in the APA (American Psychological Association) rules.

NOTE: For electronic documents, including DOI (digital object identifier) is necessary, in case it does not have this record, the URL of the document is necessary, followed by the last consultation date.

It is a requirement that all work is accompanied with a presentation letter of the manuscript in PDF format that includes the following:

 

1. Approval of work content and order of appearance of authors.

2. Acceptance of the transfer of copyrights to Revista Bio Ciencias.

3. Declaration of fact that it is an original paper, guaranteeing that it has not been fully or part of it submitted to other journal or dissertation mean (printed, electronic or congress memory in extense format), nor in any other language.

4. Name and signature of each author.

5. Seal of the work institution.

 

Presentation

Gracias por seleccionar nuestra revista para someter su manuscrito. Antes de enviar su material, el autor corresponsal deberá registrarse en nuestra plataforma procurando completar todos los campos de su perfil. 

Adjunto a su manuscrito deberá proporcionar una Carta de presentación (cover letter) firmada por el autor corresponsal. Esta carta de presentación da la oportunidad de resaltar su investigación durante la revisión preliminar al editor de la revista. Por lo tanto, con esta misma manifiesta por qué se debería considerar publicar su investigación. Además, se deberá anexar una carta firmada con cada uno de los autores donde cederán los derechos a la Revista Bio Ciencias de su manuscrito. La configuración de la cuartilla debe ser tamaño carta (28 x 21.5 cm); tipografía Arial, a 12 puntos, con interlineado de 1.5.

Tanto la carta de presentación y carta se cesión de derechos deben ser enviados por separado en formato PDF. El manuscrito principal deberá ser enviado de forma digital en formato MS WordⓇ (Plantilla).

Por favor lea y atienda las directrices de la revista para facilitar y asegurar un proceso ágil de publicación. El material enviado a la Revista Bio Ciencias debe estar sujeto a las siguientes especificaciones de cada tipo de artículos y secciones. Además, se deberá seguir el formato anexo propuesto para someter de manuscrito.

 

Letters to the Editor

Tienen como función estimular un proceso de retroalimentación que permita evaluar, y en su caso, redefinir las políticas editoriales y la labor de la Revista Bio Ciencias. Esta sección a su vez funciona como foro para la discusión abierta de temas abordados en la revista y otros asuntos de interés. La carta deberá contener título, nombre del autor con su filiación, país y el texto.

Review

Los temas tratados en este tipo de artículo deberán ser de suma relevancia en el área. El objetivo de la revisión debe ser preciso y específico. El número de cuadros, tablas y/o figuras son seis como máximo, y el número de cuartillas en total no debe exceder de 30, incluyendo referencias. Este tipo de artículo deberá contener las siguientes secciones: 

  1. Título (español e inglés). 
  2. Título corto (español e inglés).
  3. Autor(es)  Si cuentan con ORCID este debe ser incluído. 
  4. Adscripción(es) (incluir el país).
  5. Correo electrónico (autor de correspondencia). 
  6. Resumen (200 palabras).
  7. Palabras claves (5).
  8. Abstract (200 palabras).
  9. Keywords (5)
  10. Introducción.
  11. Discusión.
  12. Conclusiones.

Original Paper

Este tipo de artículo incluye resultados de investigaciones originales. El artículo deberá tener una extensión máxima de 20 cuartillas, incluyendo cuadros y/o figuras; además de contener las siguientes secciones:

  3. Autor(es). Si cuentan con ORCID este debe ser incluído. 
  4. Adscripción(es) (incluir el país).

Reporte de Caso

Este tipo de artículo plantea el reporte de algún evento relevante en el contexto biológico. Por ejemplo, la presencia de especies en zonas geográficas o bien metodologías que pueden funcionar bajo alguna condición específica. El artículo deberá tener una extensión máxima de 10 cuartillas, incluyendo cuadros y/o figuras; además de contener las siguientes secciones: 

  1. Título (español e inglés).
  2. Título corto (español e inglés).
  3. Autor(es) Si cuentan con ORCID este debe ser incluído.
  4. Adscripción. 
  5. Correo electrónico (autor de correspondencia). 
  6. Resumen (100 palabras) .
  7. Palabras claves (5).
  8. Abstract.
  9. Keywords.
  10. Introducción.
  11. Materiales y métodos.
  12. Resultados (observaciones) y discusión.
  13. Referencias bibliográficas.

Brief Comunication

Papers that are no longer than five pages, two tables or figures and the abstract is no longer than 100 words will be included in this section. This refers to papers that present preliminary or collateral results that merit posterior research. Presentation of this kind of articles must fulfill the same content norms and scientific rigour as the original articles.

Reporte Técnico

Este tipo de documentos tiene como fin informar de forma precisa los resultados y procedimientos de una investigación. Los documentos deben contener las siguientes secciones: 1) Título en español e inglés, 2) Autor(es), 3) Institución de trabajo del autor o autores, 4) Dirección electrónica del autor responsable para correspondencia, 5) Resumen, 6) Palabras clave, 7) Abstract, 8) Key words, 9) Introducción, 10) Objetivo del proyecto, 11) Objetivo del informe, 12) Área de estudio, 13) Métodos utilizados, 14) Resultados, 15) Agradecimientos, 16) Anexos.

Este tipo de documento tiene como fin informar de forma precisa los resultados y procedimientos de una investigación. Máximo 15 páginas. El documento debe contener las siguientes secciones:

Esto debido a que se trata de un número especial exclusivo para participantes del 4to Congreso Internacional Sobre Inocuidad y Calidad Alimentaria (ANICA)
