Abstract

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a progressive condition that poses a significant challenge to public health, particularly in the context of an aging population. Although the exact prevalence of this disease is unknown, it is estimated to affect at least 800 million people worldwide. Patients with diabetes or hypertension are at an increased risk of developing chronic kidney disease. As the kidneys play a crucial role in vital physiological processes, their damage can alter the water and electrolyte balance, blood pressure regulation, and toxin elimination. Early diagnosis is essential to prevent potential complications. Treatment options, such as dietary modifications and medications, can help slow disease progression. In this review, we highlighted the therapeutic options available to slow the progression of chronic kidney disease, as new drug treatments have become available in recent years, offering the possibility of improved quality of life. With the development of new technologies and advances in medical knowledge, more effective diagnostic tools and treatments for patients with CKD may be developed in the future.
