Abstract

In recent years, there has been growing interest in using metallic nanoparticles as potential antimicrobial agents, particularly amid the emergence of antibiotic-resistant bacteria. Among these, silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) have been the most extensively studied; however, there has recently been interest in other metals, such as zinc. Therefore, this article presents the synthesis of zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnONPs) prepared from aqueous and ethanolic extracts of different parts of the Annona muricata plant, such as leaf, seed, peel, and pulp, presenting a new series of nanoparticles functionalized and stabilized by phytocompounds found in said plant tissues, contributing to a more profitable synthesis. Likewise, the phytochemical profile of the main components in the tissues, including free amino acids, tannins, polyphenols, flavonoids, and reducing sugars, was analyzed. A comparative assessment was conducted to determine the content of these phytochemicals before and after the nanoparticles’ synthesis. Furthermore, the antibacterial activity of the resulting nanoparticles was evaluated against E. coli and S. aureus bacteria.
